This Sunday the Oscars highlighted the amazing work of prominent films. But as always it also highlighted some of the most amazing dresses on the red carpet. Here are some to the best (and worst) of them.
We get that Kerry wants to create a fashion statement in this piece, but in reality it became a fashion disaster. From it’s unusual shape on her body to the overall fabric choices, this dress is a no-no on the red carpet.
Simple meets fabulous in this dress. Isla kept the color and the design simple. Of course the dress isn’t credited with a wow factor but it’s simplicity and clean look comes off well and works for her.
Jennifer takes a daring look. And if you know anything about me I like daring looks and black dresses, but this is partially daring-partially weird. A little less frill in the lower half of the dress (I’m aware it’s not frill) and maybe the dress would do just fine.
Priyanka looks stunning in a white lace dress. From her poise to her attitude, she pulls off every aspect of this dress without looking like a bride.
Blue looks magnificent on Brie. Brie chooses a ruffled dress in a rich blue color. With the deep neckline and the train, this dress brings out the beauty that Brie possesses while at the same time highlighting her poise stance and feminine look.
Tina does it with this simple purple dress. While it may look sweet on her, it’s definitely not my favorite look. Too simple and weird shape are two phrases that I would use to describe the dress. In truth, the dress does look good design-wise but it’s not a style that suits Tina.
While this gold dress looks stunning on Margot, the thing that really messes up the flow of this dress is the ‘lizard skin’ texture. I dislike this texture for a dress that is supposed to be elegant. It takes away from the design of the dress and makes Margot look ‘scaly’.
This is what happens when you try to put Heidi on the red carpet. Heidi chooses a dress that she thins would look stunning and ‘one-of-a-kind’, but then it turns out to be a dress that is half ‘beautiful and modern’-‘half throwback to the mid-century’. If the sleeve was gone then this dress would have been perfect.
Recycled garbage back or high fashion? You could never tell. Whether she’s bringing awareness to the environment by recycling plastic or she’s trying some futuristic fashion this does not work on the red carpet at all. If this was in another type of material then maybe the overall design would work.
Julianne takes a simple black dress and turns it into something extra-ordinary simply by adding embellishments. Well Chanel did that, but she was the one who chose the overall look. With a deep V-cut and sparkly pattern work, this dress does well with Julianne.
Cate did not do well with this dress. the overall shower curtain effect is not something you want to walk down on the red carpet with. The very color of the dress looks like something that belongs in a bathroom. Maybe get rid of those stick on flowers and opt for a darker and more sparkly color and it would do well for her.
